Escape your desk this summer at R+T Park

The dog days of summer are upon us. Those hot, sultry days where working in an air-conditioned office can be a welcome respite or become a bit stifling.

Fortunately, there are some great ways to escape your desk this summer at David Johnston Research and Technology Park. Here are our favorites:

  1. Sip Away at a Pop-Up Beer Garden

Join us at one of several Pop-Up Beer Gardens, hosted by the R+T Park. Beer is provided by our friends at Block Three Brewery and cider is provided by KW Craft Cider. Check out @RTParkUW on Twitter for all the info. Upcoming dates are August 24 and September 14.

  1. Take a Stroll through Columbia Lake

Steps from your desk is beautiful Columbia Lake, part of the University of Waterloo’s Environmental Reserve. The lake is home to plenty of wildlife and features a walking and biking trail that winds through green space towards Bearinger Road. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a sunny summer day.

  1. Indulge in lunch from R+T Park Food Trucks

Every Thursday you can find a new Food Truck at R+T Park for lunch. Check out the newsletter for details on who will be there each week and their feature menu. You can sign up here.

  1. Join the Coed Volleyball League

Wrapping up your day and looking to get some exercise? Join the Coed Volleyball League and drop in for a game. They happen every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm all summer long. Check out the R+T Park newsletter for details.

  1. Cycle the City of Waterloo’s Laurel Trail

One of the perks that come with working in the R+T Park is access to some of the City of Waterloo’s best bike trails. The Laurel Trail offers over 8 km to explore along Laurel Creek. You can follow the trail into Uptown Waterloo for access to food, shopping or Waterloo Park.

It’s safe to say you’ve got a long list of ways to break free from your desk this summer, so take a moment to explore the park and enjoy!
